Traps

Hey!
Somewhat bored today, hence the slightly dull outfit. I thought I'd post it anyway, in the interests of daily updates. I'm saving all my energy for tomorrow, The Mighty Boosh live tour, and the day after - my birthday party! I am aware that these photos create the illusion that I have no waist, but I promise you I do...it's under all the layers!
I got this brown hoodie thing, it's wool-ish material but kinda thin, in Zara a couple of years ago but never really liked it because I didn't think it flattered my *cough* chest area. I still don't think it does actually. The tee is from primark and the dress is from ebay, I have my battered New Look wedges on the feet.
Oh! And the mouse came back yesterday evening for round two of the freak out. I was watching Gossip Girl on the laptop, facing the door of course and he poked his head under. I screamed and he retreated. Major cleaning was done, a pet cat was considered, tears were shed, traps were set and the numbers of several 24-hour pest control companies duely noted. Whilst I find the idea of a dead animal equally disgusting and unclean as a live one, I hope he goes for the traps because it freaks me out that he's living so close to my tights and underwear. My mum suggested I go home last night but I decided to stay and guard the clothes, aren't I brave?

Vermin

Hey!
This morning I awoke at a leisurely time and, after making myself a cup of green tea (with orange and lotus flower), I returned to bed to do some blog-reading and usual internet/relaxing activities. It was in this relaxed state that I was horrified by a mouse emerging from under my bed, where I keep my tights for god's sake! Nasty little brown thing...I immediatly got dressed and went to this shop near my flat which sells everything and stocked up on mouse-killing supplies. Yes, I do realise that it is very inhumane to kill mice rather than trap them live and release them, but as I live in the city I'm afraid it's the only option. To release it outside is pointless becuase it can easily scurry back in. I know that mice are a common feature of living in a big city and almost everyone I know who lives in Edinburgh has seen at least one, they are especially common in old tenement buildings like mine, which have ample nooks and crannies for them to scrabble around in. The logical part of my brain tells me that they live everywhere and are not drawn in only by dirt, but it stills unsettles me that they are finding some way to live in here and that they have been scrabbling around my home. Needless to say, a big clean is now underway!
Today's outfit! It reminds me a lot of the outfit I wore for Sea's 21st birthday, I suppose because it incorporates 90% of the same garments!

The shoes are vintage, form etsy, the tights (which are woolly - Autumn is here!) are from H&M, as is the skirt. The top is Dorothy Perkins, I bought it in the sale last week. I'm not usually a huge fan of Dotty P's but you should check out the sale 'cause there are some pretty good things in it, and good prices too. The studded belt is also H&M and the ever-present Dotti bangle was a gift from family in Aus (they have told me to expect something else around my birthday, squee!), the cardigan and grey tee are also H&M!

I was drawn to this top (actually, I thought it was a dress and on someone shorter than me, ie anyone not me, I think it would be!) because of the exposed zipper, which is something I'm loving just now! Only about a year after most bloggers but whatevs...I think they add a kind of bad-ass element to clothes which could otherwise be too cute.

I also picked up this basic black tube top, which also boasts an exposed zip. Mostly I thought it'd be useful for layering over/under sheer tops, like so;

Excuse the bra straps/stupid faces, maybe the new season of ANTM is getting to me already! Did anyone else piss themselves laughing at (note: not with) Alpha J, Beta J and The Tyra Bot, because I kinda did! I laughed nearly as hard as I did at the British accent in the first episode of new Gossip Girl!
In other news, Topshop sent me a birthday card! I got a Topshop Card a while ago (I know, I know, hardly a very fiscally responsible move but I wanted my birthday dress and it was a week till payday, ok?) and all the junk came today, including this card (which gives you 10% off - pointless since I get that with my student card anyway!) and an "exclusive" A/W '08 lookbook, which I may post later but it's basically the same as the one of the web!

Cocktail time

Hey!
Saturday night was spent celebrating a friend's 21st, I wore the pink dress thusly;
A few cocktails had been consumed by this point, if that's not already entirely obvious. The toilet photo is an homage to Sea, for some reason we always take bathroom shots. The dress I thrifted a while ago, generic black tights and ancient New Look wedges (I'll admit I chose these more for comfort than style, I was anticipating a long night!), the bangle is a gift but I happen to know it's from Dotti.

A sign of the times...

New York fashion week starts today and apparently in these tough financial times, even the designers are cutting back on their spending. Reported cost-cutting measures include; staging shows in venues outside of Bryant park and using volunteer models or no models at all, choosing instead to use mannequins in a static show. This feels to me a bit like karma or something, I work hard to be able to afford fashion and I dream of being able to afford the clothes I see on the runway. Now they have to budget carefully to get their designs seen, it only seems fair!

Victory dance

Hey!
While Sea is on her way to Paris with the girls, I am still in Edinburgh...but I'm having lunch with friends so it's all good! I don't know why I put effort into getting dressed today since the three friends I'm dining with are the least fashion-y people ever. I don't mean that in a bad way at all, but as an example, one of the males and I were talking about shoes last night. How many do we each own? I stopped counting at 20, he had 3. I decided to get at least one more wear out of this skirt before Autumn, so excuse that I look so very last season. It actually was quite an expensive skirt, and at the time I wanted it so badly that I went to the shop and put my name on a list. I actually got a phone call to go and pick this skirt up and yet this is maybe the third time I've worn it? I used it a while ago as an example of a trend that was over-done, in fact.

The shoes are my little vintage ones from etsy, they can't have been worn much by the previous owner becuase I'm having to break them in! The tights are from H&M, they're pretty cool cos they're made from cotton/jersey so they're like leggings, except that they have feet! I wore the old Primark boob tube under the skirt (it's very short and takes off in the wind!) and I like the way it looks anyway, kind of peplum-like, the skirt is from Therapy at House of Fraser, both tees are H&M and the scarf/hair tie is Primark too.

My ass of a flatmate left this morning, this is me dancing outside his room! Suck on that! Also an example of why I usually have to be drunk to dance...

Victory photo taken in the big bedroom, ha! I have the flat to myself for a whole week before the new girl moves in, awesome. No more covert photography!

Flatmate wanted

Hey!
Today was kind of tiring, showing 5 potential new flatmates around and keeping the flat tidy in between! My current flatmate is being an ass about leaving, which doesn't help, and when showing a girl round last week he stayed in bed (didn't bother getting dressed or washing) with the curtains closed...wonder why she didn't take the room? This was my outfit anyway;

I don't have any shoes on because I was mostly just staying in the flat! Generic black tights as always, the dress/pinafore thing is from H&M and I don't know why I don't wear it more often because it's so comfy! The belt I got from ebay ages ago and I'm wearing my J'aime Paris tee from Dolly Dagger in honour of Sea's departure for said French captial of all that is chic tomorrow!

I took a little trip to my local shoe-fixing place, I suppose cobbler is the right name! It is so fabulously kitcsh in there, with a little key-shaped clock that says "It's key cutting time!" and a little doll in the window who hammers away at a tiny shoe all day...ok the doll is a bit creepy but still! The guy fixed my absolute favourite vintage red leather boots, which were ruined from being worn non-stop last winter, a pattern that will, no doubt, be repeated now that they are restored to their former glory. It did cost six quid though, the actual price of the boots to begin with! While he was working on my shoes I had a little thrift trip and I must say I did very well! I got this pink dress for £2.79 then when I got home I realised it was Love Label, fits like a dream too! 'scuse the grey tee, I was feeling rather lazy!

It has this cute bow detail at the neck, I don't actually know what you call that neckline either but it's cute!
Buttons up the back, which admittedly need some attention. I plan to wear this dress to a 21st I'm going to this Saturday.
I also got these suede boots, I love the cherry red colour! They are maybe a size too small but I suppose my hooves will stretch them out, in any case they're not uncomfortable. I wish they were maybe a tiny bit less pointy as they do have a slight elf feel to them!
