wish list!

Hello!
I feel awful, not updating this! Poor Char has been doing lots of posts, I've just been so busy with work and I always seems to be constanlty tired. Retiring to bed really early and sleeping for more that 12 hours at a time! Sleep is good though :)
This shall only be a quick post, I do have some outfits but I'm updating this on my new laptop (yay!) and need to install the software from my camera onto it. So once I do this, there will be outfits :)

Right now I am currently wanting;

If ANYONE has not seen the Dark Knight, please do, you will not regret it! Heck, I've seen it twice! I really loved the film, everyone was so good in it (I loved one of Maggie Gyenhall's - im unsure if I spelt that correctly, outfits within the film, it was a simple shirt, waistcoat and dress trousers combo, but it looked really good). this tee, I want - ALOT! The FCUK shops here still have them instock (one of the perks of living up here in Edinburgh, "sold out" garments of clothing never really do sell out up here!), so I'm going to purchase one soon hopefully! If not, there is always eBay, where I got this picture from.
I cannot wait for this film to come out on DVD/Blu-ray whatever, I thouroughly enjoyed it - its such a shame that Heath Ledger is not around anymore to enjoy all the praise and excellent reviews he has gotten for his performance as the Joker, he was truly, excellent. RIP Heath Ledger :(

Apologies for the huge-ness that this picture may be! But I'm a sucker for some good old Chelsea boots. The name is fantastic in itself *wink* LOL. These would be IDEAL for me in winter/colder months time & the rain of course, which is most likely expected up here in Scotland *sigh*. These are from Topshop and cost a stupid £60/£65, I think I'll be able to find myself a similar pair in a vintage shop/eBay. One of my friends bought a pair of (ridiculously priced) pair of Topshop shoes and the heel broke right off one the very time she wore them out. She tried to take them back but because she had "already worn them", they refused to refund her! You would think that if Topshop where to price their shoes at that number, people would expect to get a decent wear out of them!

These bad boys are my dream tights, they're ace! I'd love a pair! I've been trying to find out if any high street stores will be trying to copy them/rip them off but no luck so far haha. I just love the two-tone-ness! Fabulous!

Hey!

Today I'm just studying for an exam and lazing around the flat. I wonder if my choice of outfit for today (floaty white dress) was influenced by my trip to the ballet yesterday...

This dress is vintage and I'm pretty sure it's also hand-made (there are no labels or anything inside), I'm wearing it with a tee from asos, flats from Dorothy Perkins, tights from tightsplease and Primark belt (which is far too big to be worn at the waist and is therefore pinned up with a kirby grip/bobby pin!).

As I said, I went to see my first real ballet yesterday, with my mum. It's quite weird that I've never seen a ballet before because I danced a lot when I was younger (I quit when uni started to get serious) but anyway, I really enjoyed it! I dressed quite casual becuase we went to the matinee and I knew it'd be full of tourists in ponchos and little kids but we're going to see another, more modern ballet on Wednesday in the evening so I think I'll dress up a bit for that one! Between art exhibitions and trips to the theatre I seem to be having a very cultured summer so far, don't I?

This top was one of the things sent to me by my stepmum in Australia. I like when other people buy things for me because they pick things I wouldn't choose for myself, like this top, but I end up really liking them! It's from shop called Dotti. I threw a cardigan on becuase the sky was turning that grey colour that usually signals rain...
Shoes - Dorothy Perkins, skirt and cardigan - H&M, top - Dotti, belt - H&M, grey tee - Logo (sick!). The bangle was a gift too and it's also from Dotti. I don't reeally think this outfit is right. Because the top is so long and flowy, it's hard to find a skirt that looks decent with it and I think this outfit makes my body look too long...which is bad becuase I have really short legs (for my height anyway!).

On Saturday night I went to a barbeque at my friend's house to celebrate her 21st (lots of those happening this month...me next!). Unfortunatly it was rainy so we spent most of the time inside but still had lots of fun and amazing food. Excuse the rubbish photos, I had to rush there after work so i didn't have time to mess about with the self-timer...

The shoes are vintage, I bought them from ebay and the skirt is from Primark. The belt I thifted and the sheer top is vintage (from etsy) and I'm wearing it over a vest from New Look, I'm wearing the same bangle as today, from Dotti, because it's really cute with little butterflies on it! I also had my horse ring from Urban Outfitters on but it broke half way through the evening and so is in need of some super-glue!

Vanity Fair

Hey there!

I had forgotten to mention that I saw the Vanity Fair Portraits collection last week at the Queen Street Gallery in Edinburgh. I'd definatly recommend checking it out if you get the chance, although it has finished it's stay in London and, after Edinburgh, it is only visiting Canberra and LA. For such a landmark collection I don't understand why it's visits are so limited! The collection is split into "The Jazz Age", which showcases the beginning of Vanity Fair in the 1920's and beyond and "Modern Vanity Fair", which I assume is pretty self-explanatory! The collection features memorable pictures such as a heavily pregnant Demi Moore and Princess Diana. In fact, it has been claimed that the Vanity Fair picture was, in part, responsible for Diana's reputation as "the peoples' princess" as it showed a more relaxed and approachable side to her. It's definatly a beautiful and striking photograph.

This picture of Julia Roberts was one of my favourites (as well as many of the beautiful 1920's ones which I am not able to find, sadly). I like her as an actress and this photo just looks like so much fun!
There's no denying that this picture of Hilary Swank is pretty incredible, her body's like a machine!
I was also struck by this picture of Jean Harlow. Does anyone else see a resemblance between her and Kirsten Dunst?

I went to New Look today for a friend's birthday present as I know she likes their stuff and I didn't have too much to spend. As usual, I ended up spending as much on myself as on her, for which I feel slightly guilty! There was some surprisingly good stuff in there, including many many pairs of delicious woolen tights in cream, grey and black. Still a bit early for this kind of thing perhaps but there's no harm in being organised. Besides the socks were only a pound! Ribbed for her pleasure. That's probably only funny if you've seen Wayne's World, please tell me you have! I got this pretty ring (it was only £5) but I'm mildly annoyed because, even though I bought the smallest size which was S/M and even though I actually have pretty average-sized fingers, it still falls off!
I also spotted this yummy scarf which very much reminds me of the Luella one available at Urban Outfitters. But it is obviously like a tenth of the price. Methinks it shall be mine on payday. Much as I love the Luella one (though the collection was a slight disapointment online, I've yet to see it in the flesh, with only 8 pieces) it is a bit out of my price range...

Has any one else noticed that New Look have started to label their accesories with seasons? Does anyone else find that incredibly pretentious and unnecessary from a high street retailer? Not even a high-end or particularly fashion forward retailer, think All Saints or even Topshop, but in fact a very middle of the road, ordinary shop? Could just be me, but I don't see the point.

Hoisery whore

This is what A/W '08 looks like from the point of view of a hoisery-holic. I make no apologies for my addiction to legwear, if you are not familiar with said addiction, catch up here, here and here. You know I'm ordering a load of tights next payday. It's nearly Autumn so I'll be able to feel legit buying/wearing opague tights (not that I ever stopped for summer!).

birthday!

Ok, I shall start off with my outfit from yesterday, I wore this to go to dinner with my mum & sister for an after-birthday meal for us. My sister and myself have only one day between our birthdays - mum didnt plan that very well LOL.

Shoes; Topshop. Tights; Primark. Skirt; Primark. Vest top/dress (worn as a top); H&M. Cardigan; H&M.

Anyway, it was my birthday on the 2nd. I had one of the best birthdays ever, I had such a good day/night! Thank you to the people who commented on my last post wishing me a happy birthday! Here are some of the things I got;
laptop from my mum (WOOO!), marc by marc jacobs watch from my dad, a dolce&gabbana chain in the shape of a key from a very good friend of mine, a topshop voucher worth £50 & a set of vintage pearls from my two cousins, aunty and uncle - the pearls where from my aunty's wedding day! I was like; are you sure I can have these?! Also; money, alcohol and boxes of chocolates from my grandparents, a gorgeous jewellery box from another very good friend of mine, she filled the box with tonnes of different items of jewellery (including a name necklace YAY!), a cute striped jumper, vintage party bag, sweets, necklace, bracelet & fab yellow nail polish from Char & F (thank you!!), various drinks from people - including Cosmo's LOL, Daisy perfume by marc jacobs from my sister. another gorgeous jewellery box & from work people; the marc jacobs Daisy perfume ring, soap & glory hand lotion, 'Fashion Now' book and a fab passport holder!
Phew! I am so grateful and lucky to have people that care about me to get me such lovely gifts! I am very fortunate and cannot thank them enough *LOVE*. Here are some pictures of my presents;

In my previous post, I mentioned going into town to get something to wear for the b-day 'do. This is what I bought (i lovelovelove it so much!) & wore on the night;

Please ingore the state of the room/the eeyore cuddly toy in the background/my knees (they looks so weird)/slighty open cupboard & my blacked out face, it wasnt a very pretty moment so it had to be done LOL!.
So overall, I had a fantastic birthday, ahhh I'm 21!!

This was worn to do a little bit of shopping with my mum today. I tried to see if I could get some clothes with birthday money & my voucher! Howver, I did not see that much - always the case with me; having money to spend but seeing nothing and when I am skint, there is so much nice stuff that I cant afford haha.
I did however get; Chanel foundation, cute bow top from Topshop, striped dress from H&M and some make up sponges haha!

I'm thinking of going to Glasgow on Friday as we dont have a Primark/Urban Outfitters or an American Apparel here in Edinburgh. I'll definatly be able to spend alot of cash then haha!

Lucky, lucky. You're so lucky.

Hey there!

I am in an incredibly good mood today despite the fact that my work called at 9.15 waking me up, to blame me for a voided sale that happened because the customer yanked their card out too early. Why phone to tell me that, I honestly don't care on my day off! Anyway, the good mood started with sunny weather and then a huge package arrived for me from my Dad and Stepmum in Australia! I've expressed my love of Australian shops here before, so I was majorly excited to see what they had sent me! It's obviously a challenge for them to send clothes here that I'll get decent wear out of becuase of the differance in climate, they live in tropical conditions and complain of the cold when the teperature drops below 20c whereas at that temperature I'm too hot! I live my life in tights and scarves not flip-flops and swimwear! Anyway, I did a mini-photoshoot with some of my new clothes. When I say photoshoot I mean I quickly shoved them on with very little styling and took poor-quality photos with no face because I had no make-up on yet. One of the first things I pulled out was this little tiered floral mini and I was really pleased because that's one thing I never got round to buying myself this summer, despite them being everywhere. I love how they make your legs look longer, maybe because they're really short? Somehow shortness works well when combined with ruffles!

This is what I'm actually wearing today. The shoes are vintage, I got them from ebay and the blue top is from Primark! I usually wear the blue one (it's a kind of boring vest with ugly lace which makes it look as cheap as it was) as PJs but it went so well with the bluebells on the skirt that it may yet see the light of day. The grey top is H&M. The skirt's Dotti by the way for any Australian readers!
Why is it that black shoes look so freakin' amazing with black opaque tights? A womens' magazine would probably say that monochromatic looks lengthen the legs and suit all bodytypes. I'll go with that.

The next one is really weird becuase I had actually drooled over it on the dotti website and even contemplated ordering it before finding out that they don't ship internationally. It was so similar to (a more expensive) Topshop top that I had also craved. I think my stepmum read my mind. Either that or she spoke to my stepsister, who runs the blog zen trend!

Shoes and tights as before (lazy, lazy me!). The "skirt" is a Primark boob tube. As I said before, they did really well to pick out things I'll be able to wear lots over here, even into autumn/winter like this jumper dress (probably not really a dress but my moto is if it covers the ass area, it's a dress!) why this would even be on sale in tropical North Queensland, I have no idea! Though the family were complaining of being cold the other day...lies! Wasn't I saying I wanted more black in my wardrobe to match a certain awesome birthday present I know I'm getting?

Worn with the same shoes, tights and Primark "skirt" as well as a Topshop vest. You got a little bit of face in that last one! Ignore the early morning (ok 11ish) greasiness! This next thing I love, I say "thing" becuase I don't even know what it is but it looks to me like what would happen if a dress and a jumper had a baby but maybe the jumper was half cardigan, on his mother's side. Maybe I'll call it a jress or a drumper. It's cute anyway and looks really nice on!
I love how this top looks like vintage lingerie and it feels lovely on too. Quite summery I suppose but I can always layer once it gets colder here.
I love the vintage feel of this top too, I'm seeing it tucked nicely into soemthing high-waisted, yum! And under cardigans in the winter, of course! Actually they also sent me the most beautiful grey cardigan (two things I love, grey and cardigans!) which I'll have on as soon as there's a cloud in the sky.
My Dad also sent this watch, a gift from a business trip to Hong Kong. I'm not usually a watch person (it's like being left-handed I think, you either are or are not a watch person) but for some reason I actually really love this! Maybe it's because it looks like it came from the future and arrived in a little sort of pod or maybe it's because it feels like it's made out of wetsuit. Either way I love it and I'm going to wear it, even though I'll never remember to use it to check the time! I have my phone for that...which may be a good thing 'cause it might be difficult to set to the right time! There was also a beautiful handbag which no doubt you'll see soon in an outfit post becuase it's the perfect size for daytime and lots of scarves and accessories which I love too! If any Australian readers (or anyone really!) want to know where things are from just leave a little comment!
I know that this post may make me look a bit spolied but it is nearly my birthday and I can assure you I do not have packages like this landing on my doorstep every week! As much as I love my new things (and I do!) they are in no way a replacement or a substitute for quality time spent with my family (if I'm lucky, I see my Dad once a year and the girls every second Christmas when they visit their Dad) who I miss like crazy! Just to pre-empt any anonomous comments or "what a brat" thoughts you may have had. I work hard to earn my own money and try to take as little as possible from either of my parents, as I'm sure many of you do too! I'm happy as I have some more good things for going back to uni and the colder weather and I won't have to shop for the rest of the month! I know, I can't believe I just said I'm happy not to shop but recently I have been buying rather a lot, especially for someone who's trying to clear an overdraft!

Well I'm away to tidy my room (I'm thinking of doing a tour of my wardrobe/room, which amount to the same thing 'cause my flat's tiny, daddylikey style. Thoughts?)
