Victory dance

Hey!
While Sea is on her way to Paris with the girls, I am still in Edinburgh...but I'm having lunch with friends so it's all good! I don't know why I put effort into getting dressed today since the three friends I'm dining with are the least fashion-y people ever. I don't mean that in a bad way at all, but as an example, one of the males and I were talking about shoes last night. How many do we each own? I stopped counting at 20, he had 3. I decided to get at least one more wear out of this skirt before Autumn, so excuse that I look so very last season. It actually was quite an expensive skirt, and at the time I wanted it so badly that I went to the shop and put my name on a list. I actually got a phone call to go and pick this skirt up and yet this is maybe the third time I've worn it? I used it a while ago as an example of a trend that was over-done, in fact.

The shoes are my little vintage ones from etsy, they can't have been worn much by the previous owner becuase I'm having to break them in! The tights are from H&M, they're pretty cool cos they're made from cotton/jersey so they're like leggings, except that they have feet! I wore the old Primark boob tube under the skirt (it's very short and takes off in the wind!) and I like the way it looks anyway, kind of peplum-like, the skirt is from Therapy at House of Fraser, both tees are H&M and the scarf/hair tie is Primark too.

My ass of a flatmate left this morning, this is me dancing outside his room! Suck on that! Also an example of why I usually have to be drunk to dance...

Victory photo taken in the big bedroom, ha! I have the flat to myself for a whole week before the new girl moves in, awesome. No more covert photography!

Business time

Hey!
I made it to the bank today (go me!) and then to H&M to find myself a new work wardrobe. In Edinburgh we have two main H&Ms, one (which I usually prefer) which carries all the Trend and Divided stuff and the other which I usually find fairly boring! It has the suits and suchlike, I suppose it's mainly designed for people slightly older than us, but it is allegedly the flagship, weirdly. I had put a few things aside yesterday and today added a simple sort of shift dress. I have photos but they're a bit rubbish since black never shows up well and I had to use a flash, sorry!

Suit jackets; grey (spicy!) and black - £10 in the sale, score! That's actually the 3rd £10 black jacket I've bought, may be a good idea to stop now...
Skirt - £5 in sale, also mistakenly ticketed as an 18 (probably the reason why it's in the sale...). dress, quite boring but a nice fit! Apologies if this is boring! Also apologies for the crappy photography and for the fact that I couldn't be assed to model.
Outfit du jour:

Shirt - ebay (pussy bow! and it has a Mary Poppins-esque pattern!), cardigan - H&M, skirt - boohoo, tights - Primark, shoes - also H&M (also for work, I was breaking them in. They're pretty comfy!).

The work wardrobe of my dreams is a teeny tiny bit closer...when I was a kid I always dreamed of wearing a suit to work, that was basically the specifications of my future job; must wear suit. Teenage jobs with fugly uniforms seem to have cemented this further into my psyche, I'd die happy if I never again wore a unisex, poly-blend, badly sized, polo shirt or some such. Or an apron, unless it was a vintage apron, worn by choice. Whilst baking.

Again, fashion is art

Hello!
I posted before about how I believe that fashion is art and seeing the Kirsten Dunst for Miu Miu campaign again in this month's Elle UK (I went to Borders in search of Vogue Nippon - I want to see Hello Kitty in Dior!), I was once again reminded of this. Those fabulous sunglasses, reminded me so much of the work of Scottish Artist Charles Rennie Mackintosh. My mum's a big fan of his work and I have to agree with her, even decades after it was produced it seems fresh and clean. I think my mum also likes him because he's from Glasgow, and she's also from the West Coast.

See the similiarity?

I wasn't able to find many images of Charles Rennie Mackintosh's work that wasn't tacky rip-offs, so this book cover will have to do!

I really did like the whole campaign with Kirsten Dunst, though I'm not a massie fan of her as an actress. This season's Miu Miu is great but that striped dress worn by Kirsten in the ads was ruined forever for me when it was worn (badly) by Geri Halliwell of Spice Girls fame in this months UK Glamour.
I'm not in the greatest mood today after working all day in crazy heat because the aircon was broken, I realise that I live in Scotland but factoring in all the machinery and junk in my work, it really was hot! I came home after a 9 hour shift to find a huge mess left by my selfish idiot of a flatmate. Not at all fashion related, just needed to vent!

I want candy

Hello there!

It might be just my exam induced sweet-tooth speaking here, but aren't the Spring runways delicious looking!

Valentino

That amazing purple colour reminds me of Parma Violets (and my new favourite drink, Parma Violet vodka!)

Christian Dior

Totally remind me of yummy love heart sweets (they got weird when they tried to be all modern and now say things like "txt me" and "sxy boi" - just a thought)

Fashion is art

I've been thinking recently about fashion as art.
Often, my male friends at uni make fun of my love of fashion. They are interested in politics/science/current events and I'll admit I often find myself unable to follow their conversations (except science, because that is my degree, afterall!). They'll ask me for my opinion on, say, the American elections and I'll think "I don't care!", even if I lived in the USA I wouldn't care! It just doesn't interest me, but they don't understand that. They seem to think I'm dumb because while they read The Guardian, I'm flicking through Vogue or Glamour, but I don't see it that way. I see fashion as art and it seems even more evident this season:

Burberry Prosum

Alexander McQueen

Prada

It really does irritate me that, whilst I try to understand their interests and contribute to discussion, they won't even listen to me when I try to tell them why fashion is important to me and why it is worth knowing about. Don't we all make choices about what we wear? Our clothes affect who we are and how we are perceived but they won't admit to this at all.

In my head, everytime I start with them I begin a kind of lecture/rant a la Miranda Priestly in Devil Wears Prada. And in my head, I win the great fashion debate.

Boys are weird.

She chose books, I chose looks

Unfortunatly this has to be super-quick since I'm meant to be revising for an exam tomorrow. stress and tiredness probably played a part in that post-title too, but who doesn't like Matilda and her gross mother who was all fake nails and weird accent?

Inspired in part by Luella SS08, one of my favourite collections (I know, how very unoriginal...I said I was tired!):

A'hoy current trend!

Ok, so this is my first post as part of a duo on this blog thang. so please forgive the errors/mistakes/obvious daft things!
As an interest being fashion (duh), me and my fellow fashion follower though it'd be fun to re-create or interpret our own clothing into trends we've seen currently swooning down catwalks recently. Our first is the sailor/nautical look.
I think this look is just too cute for summer!

So here is some of clothes that i think would suit someone at a day at the beach or harbour *love*!

Ok, so what we have here is a light red coat from h&m, a navy striped top also from h&m,
a navy jumper (if it gets chilly at the beach, most likely in the UK!) from american apparel, some navy shorts with a piping detail from topshop, some navy & cream deck shoes from primark and finally a cream bag from acessorize.next up will be Char's take on this look, squeah!

Char says:
That darn nautical thing comes back every Spring/Summer like that annoying cold I get at exam time, yet every year I get all excited at the thought of vintage sailor dresses, those sweet little hats sailors wear (my friend once stole one from a Navy guy in a club but thats another story...) and vast amounts of navy blue. So no matter how often I see it, it seems I'm a sucker for a good bit of nautical fun!

grey pencil skirt (worn as dress) - vintage, sailor jacket - vintage (ebay USA), grey tights - primark, blue ribbon bangle - ancient ASOS.com

anchor pattern top - Topshop

Please excuse the headless photos! Darn self-timer is so complex...
